Impossible: Senators Consider Rejecting Clean Air Bill, Admit Some Disagreements

Wutthichart denied that senators intend to reject the Clean Air Bill after the Cabinet decided to send it back to Parliament again. He said it is possible to set up a joint committee of both houses to study differing issues, stressing that all opinions must be heard.

At 09:30 on 6 May 2026 GMT+7. Wutthichart Kalyanamitra, a member of the Senate. As chairman of the special committee reviewing the Clean Air Bill in the Senate, Wutthichart spoke at the Parliament Building about the Cabinet's resolution to send the draft Clean Air Management Act back to Parliament. He said a meeting of the three-party whip groups—government, opposition, and Senate—will be scheduled to confirm the bill. He agrees with the Cabinet's resolution, noting the government prioritizes this law as a fundamental right for citizens to breathe clean air, and said the review will proceed as quickly as possible.

Regarding rumors that the Senate might reject the Clean Air Bill, Wutthichart said this is impossible. All senators agree it is a law beneficial to the public. However, there are some points where the Senate disagrees. It is possible a joint committee will be formed for consideration, and he believes this will not take long.

He emphasized that the Senate upholds the public interest and believes time must be given for businesses to adjust, with a timeframe appropriate to their operations. It should not be a sudden cut that harms the industrial sector. Both sides must be considered: citizens who deserve clean air and businesses that need to adapt, so problems are not allowed to persist.
