Supamas Raids Samut Sakhon Factory, Cracks Down on Mislabelled Canned Fish Products

"Supamas" raids a canned fish factory for deceptive products misrepresented on packaging, warning of severe penalties including up to 10 years imprisonment for producing fraudulent food to deceive consumers.

On 6 May 2026, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, together with Mr. Ronarong Phoolpipat, Secretary-General of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), and Ms. Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), visited Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province to verify complaints about canned fish products "not matching their labels." They found that other types of fish were used instead of the mackerel indicated on the labels.

Ms. Supamas revealed that, following in-depth investigations with the Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office, the factory clearly engaged in consumer deception. The factory violated the Food Act B.E. 2522 by producing counterfeit food, punishable by imprisonment from 6 months to 10 years and fines between 5,000 and 100,000 baht. The inaccurate labeling causing consumer misunderstanding carries a fine of up to 30,000 baht. Additionally, the production site failed to meet GMP standards.

The Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office emphasized that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul prioritizes this issue. Although the business operator has offered initial compensation, the government must enforce legal measures to prevent recurrence. Consumer safety and confidence are paramount. The government will apply all measures to ensure the public receives quality and fair products. Those harmed have the right to full compensation under consumer protection laws.

Consumers who encounter substandard or exploitative products can report them via the OCPB hotline 1166, the OCPB connect mobile app, the website ocpb.go.th, or the Damrongtham Center at provincial halls nationwide.
