Prime Minister Commits to Ensuring Thai Viewers Can Watch the 2026 World Cup, Talks with NBTC to Find Solutions, Acknowledges Private Sector Concerns

Prime Minister Anutin vowed to do his utmost to enable Thai people to watch the 2026 World Cup. He confirmed discussions with the NBTC to find methods, expressing understanding of the private sector's economic situation. The government is ready to facilitate.

Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. gave an interview at the Government House after speaking with Dr. Saran Boonbaichaiyapruk, Chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). He said it was a courtesy visit, as he and Dr. Saran are well acquainted, and Dr. Saran came to report progress on NBTC's missions and policies.

When asked if there was an opportunity to discuss broadcasting the 2026 World Cup, he replied, Anutin said they have been discussing and looking for ways. Since he is not a football fan and has not followed football closely, he only recently learned the tournament is in June. They will do their best to seek cooperation.

When asked if this would involve seeking cooperation from the private sector, Anutin replied he did not know the details yet, but the government cannot purchase rights directly. However, it can facilitate, coordinate, seek, and support cooperation. He expressed sympathy for the private sector's economic challenges as they have to manage their own affairs but will do their best. When pressed on whether this can be done in time, the Prime Minister confirmed they will try their utmost to achieve it.
