Anutin revealed that the 400 billion baht loan decree has been submitted for royal endorsement. He is undeterred by the opposition's intention to petition the Constitutional Court for interpretation, retorting that those filing the petition had previously borrowed under the name "Strong Thailand." He emphasized that this time the borrowing is in Thai baht and funds will be delivered directly to the people instead of through intermediaries.
On 7 May 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about the opposition's plan to collect signatures to submit to the Constitutional Court regarding the government's 400 billion baht loan decree. He said he personally signed the decree to submit it for royal consideration. Regarding the possibility that the Constitutional Court’s interpretation might delay assistance to the public and the government's economic problem-solving efforts for 60 days, he stressed that everyone is trying to address issues to alleviate public hardship, as they represent the people and must prioritize their interests. He noted that he is likely the eighth Prime Minister to authorize such borrowing, which has been a common practice. Even those planning to petition the court had previously borrowed a similar amount under a different program name. "Strong Thailand." But I used the term "Thailand Helping Thailand."
When asked if this borrowing differs in currency or borrowing format, the Prime Minister stated that this time the loan is in Thai baht only, with no foreign currency involved. After approval, every baht and satang will go directly to the people without passing through programs. This will stimulate economic spending and increase liquidity circulation in Thailand’s financial system, bringing greater benefits. He emphasized that what he is doing is highly beneficial and that he will oversee the spending carefully to ensure it is effective. This is not unusual; it is a necessary action to drive progress in line with the policies previously presented to Parliament.
When asked if the Constitutional Court petition would disrupt programs like Khon La Khrueng Plus and the State Welfare Card, the Prime Minister said it would not. The government is fulfilling its promises and carrying out policies as declared, with sincere intentions.
