Prime Minister Prepares for Trilateral Talks Thailand-Cambodia-Philippines to Resolve Border Issues

Anutin arrives in the Philippines tonight to begin trilateral talks "Thailand-Cambodia-Philippines" to resolve border issues, emphasizing the stance to safeguard national interests.


On 7 May 2026, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife Thanon Charnvirakul and cabinet members, arrived at Cebu Air Base in the Republic of the Philippines to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit. The Minister of Tourism and the Governor of Cebu Province warmly welcomed them. The important mission began immediately that evening with trilateral talks alongside Samdech Maha Borwathibodi Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Ferdinand Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines, to find solutions regarding the Thailand-Cambodia border situation.

Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed details of the trilateral discussions, describing it as a cooperative effort with the Philippine President, as ASEAN Chair, acting as mediator and facilitator. The Thai government focuses on protecting national interests as the core priority. The process of restoring relations between Thailand and Cambodia will proceed step by step and with caution. The main goal is to rebuild trust as a strong foundation. Afterwards, the Prime Minister and his wife will attend a dinner within the BIMP-EAGA cooperation framework.

On 8 May, the Prime Minister has a full schedule, including attending the opening ceremony of the 48th ASEAN Summit, participating in both the plenary session and informal retreat session to exchange regional visions. He is also scheduled for bilateral talks with other ASEAN leaders to strengthen economic and security cooperation, which will bring confidence and new opportunities for Thailand on the international stage.
