
Bangkok residents should save the date for the 2026 Bangkok governor election and know when to cast their votes after the current governor's term ends on 21 May 2026.
As of 7 May 2026, it is clear that the four-year term of Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sitthiphan will conclude on 21 May 2026.
The Election Commission (EC) has approved plans to hold simultaneous elections for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, Bangkok Governor, Pattaya City Council, and Pattaya Mayor upon completion of their terms. This aligns with the provisions of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019) and its amendments, specifically Section 12. Candidate registration for these positions is set between 28 May and 1 June 2026, with the election day scheduled for Sunday, 28 June 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00.
(1) Must be a Thai national by birth.
(2) Must be at least 35 years old on election day.
(3) Must have been registered as a resident in Bangkok continuously for at least one year up to the registration date.
(4) Must have completed at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
(5) Must not possess any disqualifications under Section 50 of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019).
2.2 Registration fee for Bangkok Governor candidacy
The fee is 50,000 baht.
3. Documents required for registration as a candidate for Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council member:
(1) Election application form, type P.Th. 4/1.
(2) Ten clear, front-facing photographs without hats, approximately 8.5 cm wide by 13.5 cm tall, matching the applicant's appearance.
(3) Identification card and one copy.
(4) House registration document of the head of household and one copy.
(5) Medical certificate dated within one month.
(6) Education certificate of at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent (for Bangkok Governor candidates only).
(7) Proof of personal income tax payment for three consecutive years up to the election year (2022, 2023, 2024). If exempt from tax, a written confirmation explaining the exemption must be submitted, per form P.Th. 4/2, in accordance with Section 51 of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019).
(8) Other necessary documents, such as legal name change certificates, birth certificates, proof of birth, residency documents, with one copy each.
4. Registration procedure
Candidates must submit their application, supporting documents, and registration fee to the Bangkok Local Election Director. They must also provide proof of personal income tax payment for the past three consecutive years up to the election year, or if exempt, submit a written confirmation with reasons for exemption.

Submitting a candidacy application while knowingly lacking qualifications or possessing disqualifications carries penalties under Section 120, which include imprisonment from one to ten years, fines ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and disqualification from voting rights for 20 years.
