Chadchart Announces Readiness to Defend Bangkok Governor Title for Second Term, Cautions Strong Opposition from Orange Camp

Chadchart admits that achieving a landslide victory in a second term is difficult, noting the strong support base of the orange camp opponents. He states he is a good choice for the people and is ready to support Bangkok council members individually.

On 7 May 2026, Chadchart Sithiphan, Governor of Bangkok, spoke openly about his political future and the possibility of running for a second term as governor. He said the likelihood is high but asked the public to wait for an official announcement after his current term ends. For now, he is focused on performing his duties to the best of his ability. He confirmed that the emergence of several parties introducing capable new candidates is positive for democracy, as it stimulates fresh ideas and offers diverse choices for Bangkok residents.

Regarding the election outlook, Chadchart candidly acknowledged that a landslide victory like the previous one is unlikely this time. This is because the People’s Party maintains strong popularity in Bangkok, as reflected in the recent parliamentary elections. He anticipates a tough contest requiring his full effort. However, Chadchart emphasized he does not view other candidates as enemies but rather as offering the best options for the public. He said if opponents have good ideas, he is willing to adopt them, and if he does not continue in office, he welcomes whoever carries on the policies because ultimately the benefits belong to the people.

On campaign strategy, Chadchart stressed that the achievements over the past four years will be the proof for voters to decide. Going forward, he will continue to focus on both major and minor infrastructure projects simultaneously, integrating suitable technology to maximize city development efficiency. He also highlighted the crucial role of Bangkok council members in approving budgets and legislation. Although he currently remains independent without affiliation to any faction, in the future he may consider endorsing individual council members who are good, qualified, transparent, and cooperative.

"An election is not a boxing match but a presentation of the best choices. I carry no burdens as I remain independent. If people appreciate my work, they will choose me; if not, they won’t, and life goes on. I have no expectations or worries," Chadchart concluded in a relaxed tone, emphasizing that ultimately the highest decision-making power truly lies with the people of Bangkok.
