The Philippines, as the ASEAN chair, initiated this meeting. After the talks, Prime Minister Anutin held a press conference, presenting statements in alphabetical order: starting with the Philippine President as ASEAN chair, followed by the Cambodian Prime Minister, then the Thai Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Anutin expressed gratitude to the Philippine President for initiating this important meeting and revealed that he had constructive and forward-looking discussions with the Cambodian Prime Minister. The talks were straightforward and meaningful, marking a significant opportunity to reaffirm mutual commitment to negotiation and peace maintenance. Thailand and Cambodia are neighboring countries closely linked in many aspects. Conflict causes losses and suffering to all parties, highlighting the value of peace. Therefore, it is time for both countries to look ahead and open a new chapter in their relationship, requiring sincerity, honesty, and shared commitment to overcome challenges.
The government spokesperson said that on this occasion, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to assign their foreign ministers to collaborate on drafting practical confidence-building measures, starting with issues where both sides share common ground and can act immediately. These measures will be vital mechanisms to restore trust and gradually strengthen bilateral relations again. Prime Minister Anutin emphasized that Thailand and Cambodia need to proceed together gradually in the same direction. During this process, both sides should increase direct communication at all levels to reduce misunderstandings and jointly seek ways to expand cooperation in mutually beneficial fields.
Regarding land and maritime border issues, Prime Minister Anutin proposed approaches for discussions to advance handling these matters on the basis of good neighborliness. Today's talks represent an important step in fostering an atmosphere conducive to peace and regional cooperation. He affirmed that Thailand is ready to work constructively with all parties based on good understanding, mutual respect, and the shared interests of the people of both countries and the region as a whole.
