Democrat Party to Launch Bangkok Governor Candidate on 16 May, Promises City Transformation

Sakoltee announced the Democrat Party will launch its Bangkok governor candidate on 16 May, promoting policies to transform the city and expressing confidence in securing more Bangkok Council seats.

On 8 May 2026, Sakoltee Phatthiyakul, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, revealed plans to nominate candidates for the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Council members (BC). The party will definitely field a candidate and officially introduce them on 16 May at 09:30 to publicly present their vision. The party has already selected candidates for all 50 council districts.

Sakoltee discussed the campaign strategy, acknowledging that although the current Bangkok governor has performed well over the past four years, the party sees areas for further improvement, especially in "behind-the-scenes" policies and major projects that impact residents' quality of life—such as public transport systems and advancing waste management beyond simple landfill methods. The party’s proposed policies will emphasize clear differences to show voters how Bangkok would improve over the next four years under a Democrat governor.

Regarding competition against the incumbent governor Chadchart Sittipunt and frontrunner from the Pheu People Party, Chaiwat Stawornwijit, Sakoltee analyzed that while both have strengths in ongoing achievements and party momentum—having swept all Bangkok MP seats—the Democrat Party still has chances thanks to distinct policies and the party leader’s influential credibility. For the Bangkok Council, the party aims to increase its seats beyond the current nine districts, as many candidates have strong ties to their communities.
