Paradon Explains Cabinets Decision Not to Endorse Draft Constitution, Citing Concerns Over Rejection and Leaving It to New Parliament

Paradon explained that the Cabinet's decision not to endorse the draft constitution is due to the previous parliament's dissolution caused by disagreements. If the original draft is sent back, it is expected to be rejected. Therefore, the authority to propose it is left to the new parliament.

On 8 May 2026, Paradon Prisananantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and Member of Parliament for Ang Thong from the Bhumjaithai Party, revealed that the government did not endorse the draft constitution after discussions in the Cabinet and with the legal team. Although it is within the Cabinet's power to endorse the draft, they agreed it should be proposed by the new legislative body for reconsideration. The previous parliament dissolved due to disagreements over the draft constitution. If the original draft were endorsed and returned, it is anticipated that the draft would be rejected, preventing the parliament from passing it. Furthermore, a similar draft could not be proposed in the current session, thus delaying constitutional amendments by one parliamentary term.

Therefore, since a referendum has been held and the public overwhelmingly agreed to amend the constitution, and with the public voting in favor of a new constitution, it is rightful for the parliament to proceed with the matter.
