Supachai refuted rumors, affirming that the Bhumjaithai Party never proposed a casino in the Land Bridge project, condemning those spreading falsehoods as slandering. However, he acknowledged that other political parties have indeed submitted drafts including casino proposals.
On 8 May 2026, Mr. Supachai Jaisamut, a party-list MP for Bhumjaithai, clarified amid criticism of the draft Special Economic Corridor (SEC) bill for Southern Thailand. He firmly stated that the party never proposed casinos in the Land Bridge project. He noted the original draft had been dropped according to parliamentary rules and expressed support for the government’s thorough impact study before making decisions.
Regarding media reports claiming the Bhumjaithai-proposed SEC bill draft included provisions for casinos or entertainment complexes, Supachai labeled these as "falsehoods and slander." Article 38 of the draft listed ten target industries focusing on green economy and innovation: smart cities and digital, premium and wellness tourism, agriculture and biotechnology, food processing, rubber processing, robotics, financial hubs, green energy, industrial estates, and southern transportation hubs.
"We confirm that none of these ten industries include casinos. However, we acknowledge that other political parties have submitted drafts proposing casinos, but these are not from Bhumjaithai," Supachai said.
According to the constitution, when a new government forms, it must confirm whether to continue considering pending bills. The current government has not confirmed continuation of the original SEC bill draft, including Bhumjaithai’s version, resulting in the bill being "dropped." Therefore, attacking it now has no practical effect.
Supachai stated that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as Bhumjaithai leader, appointed a working group to study the SEC and Land Bridge projects, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Akniti Nitithanprapas. The group emphasizes public participation, focusing next on environmental (EIA) and health impact assessments (HIA) to gather diverse stakeholder input on pros and cons. If studies conclude the area is suitable and beneficial with manageable impacts, Bhumjaithai is ready to support moving forward with new legislation through proper channels.
