Government Pushes DLT-TMS to Upgrade Digital Logistics, Prepares Old for New Vehicle Exchange Plan to Promote Electric Vehicles

The government is promoting DLT-TMS to advance digital logistics, reduce costs, and enhance competitiveness. It is preparing an "old for new" vehicle exchange plan for trucks and public transport to support operators in adopting EVs and promote environmentally friendly transportation.

On 9 May 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertvivatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Transport, is advancing the upgrade of Thailand's road transport and logistics systems under the Digital Government policy. This involves applying information technology to develop a modern, convenient, safe, and efficient transport management system to increase the competitiveness of Thailand's logistics sector and support sustainable economic growth.

The Deputy Spokesperson explained that a key project is developing the DLT-TMS (Transport Management System) by the Department of Land Transport (DLT), which will serve as a central database for road transport. This system will help operators use data for transport planning, cost reduction, and raising service standards to align with international benchmarks. Meanwhile, the government can analyze this data to formulate more accurate transport policies and use it to improve cost structures and enhance the country's transport efficiency.

Furthermore, the government plans to adjust the formulas for calculating transport rates and fares to reflect actual costs accurately. This will be done alongside addressing the issue of "empty return trips" by utilizing transport management data to reduce logistics costs and improve service efficiency.

Additionally, the government is preparing to propose the "old for new" vehicle exchange program for trucks and public transport to the Cabinet. This initiative aims to encourage operators to switch to electric vehicles (EVs), promoting environmentally friendly transport and reducing pollution from the transport sector. Simultaneously, the government is pushing for transport service quality standards with the Q Mark certification, which currently has 462 certified operators covering over 64,000 trucks.

"Developing the DLT-TMS system will help operators, especially SMEs, access crucial transport data, reduce costs, and enhance competitiveness. The government will continue advancing digital logistics to elevate Thailand's transport system to international standards and support the new economy," she said.
