The Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party delivered a sharp rebuke, advising Pradorn to check his memory. She asked if he really forgot that during the campaign he explained the Khon La Khrueng Plus project was funded from the budget, not by borrowing. She challenged Bhumjaithai to borrow 400 billion baht and achieve GDP growth like during the Democrat Party’s era.
On 9 May 2026, Ms. Siripha Intawichian, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party, posted a response to Mr. Pradorn Prissanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, who had criticized Mr. Korn Chatikavanij, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party. Korn, acting as opposition, questioned the borrowing of 400 billion baht and why budget funds were not used as promised during the campaign. Pradorn claimed he was not Nostradamus to predict a war would occur.
Ms. Siripha said she understands that Pradorn is not Nostradamus, but she recommends he have his memory assessed for possible cognitive issues. Early detection would help slow brain deterioration most effectively.
She asked if he really forgot that during the campaign, in the limited policies Bhumjaithai promoted, they clarified that the Khon La Khrueng Plus or Thai Chua Thai Plus project would use 44 billion baht from the budget without borrowing. The Democrat Party agreed with the need to help and support the people. However, because of the unclear use of borrowed funds, society worries that the money might be misused. She warned that the government’s big-house thinking could trap Thailand in a long-term crisis. She added that he does not need to be Nostradamus; he could ask a spirit medium whether this lack of clarity would leave a long-term debt burden for the people.
She further asked if he really forgot that during Abhisit’s government, when Korn was Finance Minister, amid the global financial crisis with negative GDP, the focus was on economic stimulus rather than giveaways. They efficiently used borrowed funds to revive the economy, achieving over 7.5% GDP growth within 18 months. It would be good if he could plan borrowing as effectively as the Democrat government did. While he compared borrowing-to-GDP ratios as lower, she warned that the public debt ceiling would surpass 70% during his era, which could trap Thailand in a prolonged crisis and even risk bankruptcy if borrowed funds fail to generate economic value.
She stated she holds no official position requiring cabinet consultation but, as a Thai citizen paying taxes that fund the government and who will bear the debt, she has the right to question the necessity of the emergency loan act. She wants assurance that every baht of taxpayers' money is used efficiently unless the government is a dictatorship that ignores opposing views.
