Nida Poll: Most Bangkok Residents Not Excited About 2026 Governor Election, Outcome Seen as Predictable

Bangkok Governor Election 2026: A Nida Poll surveying Bangkok residents found that most believe national politics and candidate backgrounds do not affect their voting decisions and are not excited about the June 28 election, indicating the winner is fairly predictable.


On 10 May 2026, the Nida Poll Center at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) released the results of a survey titled “Is the 2026 Bangkok Governor Election Exciting?” The survey was conducted from 5-6 May 2026 among 1,310 residents aged 18 and over eligible to vote in Bangkok, covering all 50 districts and representing all education levels, occupations, and income groups, regarding their decision-making in the Bangkok governor election on 28 June 2026.

When asked, "Does national politics influence the decision of Bangkok residents when voting in the Bangkok governor election on 28 June 2026?" the findings showed

  • 33.97% said it does not influence at all,
  • 22.98% said it somewhat influences,
  • 21.91% said it influences greatly,
  • 20.99% said it does not influence much,
  • and 0.15% did not respond or were not interested.

Regarding the names and backgrounds of candidates for deputy governor influencing Bangkok residents’ voting decisions in the governor election, the results were

  • 30.61% said it does not influence at all,
  • 24.20% said it somewhat influences,
  • 23.59% said it influences greatly,
  • 21.60% said it does not influence much.

Finally, when asked about the excitement level regarding the Bangkok governor election, on 28 June 2026,

  • 32.59% said it is not exciting because they can somewhat predict which candidate will win,
  • 29.24% said it is not exciting because whoever wins will be the same,
  • 22.06% said it is exciting but only about 2-4 candidates have a chance of winning,
  • and 16.11% said it is exciting because all candidates have a chance to be elected.
