At 07:41 on 11 May 2026, the moment arrived when former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra stepped out of the gates of Klong Prem Central Prison after receiving a parole following 8 months, or 243 days, of incarceration. He wore a white polo shirt, navy trousers, sneakers, and had a short haircut in accordance with prison regulations. He first embraced Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, his youngest daughter and former prime minister, followed by Ms. Pinthongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong, his second child, and then Mr. Panthongtae Shinawatra, his eldest son. Family members, MPs, and members of the Pheu Thai Party, along with Red Shirt supporters, surrounded him offering encouragement and flowers.
At 07:53, he participated in the flag-raising ceremony in front of the prison. Then at 07:55, Thaksin waved to supporters before getting into a Mercedes-Maybach car, license plate PT 4444 Bangkok, with Ms. Paethongtarn to travel to have an EM bracelet fitted at the Probation Department. He opened the car window to greet the crowd that had gathered, which delayed departure due to the large number of people surrounding the vehicle. He did not give any interviews to the press.
