Deputy Education Minister Akkranant Demands Justice for Victims of Former Teachers Abuse After Two-Year Delay

Deputy Education Minister Akkranant slammed the table demanding justice be restored to victims abused by a former teacher, insisting the case be resolved within one week after it had remained pending for over two years. He also announced plans to open a Center for the Protection of Rights, Freedom, and Welfare.

On 11 May 2026, reporters reported that on 10 May, Deputy Minister of Education Akkranant Kankittinan, accompanied by Linthiporn Warinwatcharot, Paramee Waichongjaroen, Dr. Raveepat Jirasakwatthana, his team, Education Ministry executives, Worawong Worapanya, Member of Parliament for Lopburi from the Pheu Thai Party, and officials from Lopburi's Social Development and Human Security Office visited the area to follow up on the sexual abuse case involving a former private school teacher in Lopburi. They aimed to conclude and close the case, which had been unresolved for over two years, within just one week after Akkranant personally visited the site on 3 May.

Akkranant revealed that after hearing the long-standing distress of the victim's family, he believes that financial compensation alone cannot compare to the psychological damage the child has suffered. When a school fails to protect children, the Ministry of Education, as the supervising agency, must act as a "umbrella" for families in place of the school. He has ordered the Office of the Private Education Commission to strengthen teacher ethics monitoring and mandated all schools to install CCTV cameras in blind spots to firmly prevent such incidents.

"I admit that the Ministry may have been lax in its directives in the past, but from now on, everything will change. On 18 May, I will officially open the Center for the Protection of Rights, Freedom, and Welfare to integrate the work of all departments within the Ministry. I assure you that we will not abandon the children and will continuously coordinate with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to support their psychological healing until they regain strength," he said.

Akkranant added that the center’s operational framework will focus on three main dimensions to prevent history from repeating itself: 1. Prevention systems by raising awareness among staff to respect children's rights, eliminate authoritarian practices in schools, and establish effective mental health counseling; 2. A modern reporting system utilizing technology and platforms such as Traffy Fondue, enabling children and parents to report directly to the center immediately, thus reducing internal school cover-ups or mediations; and 3. Comprehensive rehabilitation systems addressing both physical and psychological recovery.

"My goal is for this Center for the Protection of Rights to become a reliable and permanent refuge. Anyone who bullies children or violates rights and freedoms in educational institutions will face strict punishment. I will personally address every grievance to ensure that schools are the safest places for students, teachers, and educational staff," Akkranant concluded.
