Democrat Party to Launch Bangkok Governor Candidate on 16 May, Hints at Male Under 60 with Good Personality

Abhisit revealed that the Democrat Party is ready to be the best choice for Bangkok residents, leading the prospective Bangkok Metropolitan Council candidates, showcasing readiness in policy and team. The party will officially launch its Bangkok governor candidate on 16 May, hinting the candidate is a man under 60 years old with a good personality.

On 11 May 2026, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, spoke before attending the orientation for the party's Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) candidates. He stated that the meeting was to rehearse understanding of working within party frameworks and election laws, following the party's approval of candidates for all districts. This is an important process to build unity in serving the public.

Abhisit confirmed that the party will officially introduce its Bangkok governor candidate on 16 May. He hinted the candidate is a man with outstanding qualifications, under 60 years old, with a good personality and an interesting work history. He also emphasized that the party is not worried about competition but focuses on offering the best choices to Bangkok residents through the council team and policies that address quality of life.

“We consider it our duty to offer options to all Bangkok residents. The party has prepared the candidates, policies, and team to fill gaps and help the public feel more secure,” he said.

Regarding today's orientation for BMC candidates, Abhisit spoke about the alignment between the Democrat Party and local governance, calling it significant yet simple. He noted it is remarkable that 80 years ago, the party's founders wrote ten party ideologies, one emphasizing that “the state should decentralize power to local areas as much as possible.” He asked to imagine that 80 years ago there were no provincial administrative organizations, subdistrict administrative organizations, or elected governors, yet that was the party's founding ideal. Therefore, the party supports and promotes the current Bangkok administrative law, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act of 1985.
