Confirmed: Thailands Consumer Protection Agency Orders Immediate Suspension of Two Thermos Models

Thailand's Anti-Fake News Center confirms the truth that the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) has ordered an immediate suspension of sales and use of two Thermos brand models, despite no injuries reported in Thailand, following reports from the U.S. of exploding lids causing severe user injuries.

On 11 May 2026, Thailand's Anti-Fake News Center posted confirmation that it is true that a popular thermal flask brand has been ordered to stop sales and usage immediately. The Consumer Protection Board (CPB) has warned consumers to stop using two Thermos thermal flask models, SK3000 and SK3020. This follows detection of a risk from pressure buildup inside the flasks, which may cause the lids to forcefully pop open and pose danger.

Currently, the sale of both models has been suspended across all channels, including physical stores and online. Although no injuries have been reported in Thailand, owners of these models are advised to stop using them immediately for safety. Ms. Supamas Isarapakdee, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office overseeing the CPB, revealed that although no injuries have been reported in Thailand, to prevent incidents, the public is urged to stop using the affected Thermos models immediately. Those who have suffered damages can file complaints directly with the CPB.

Additional reports say that Thermos thermal flasks officially originated in Germany in 1904, created by two German glassmakers who patented vacuum bottle technology and established Thermos GmbH to commercially produce them. The name “Thermos” comes from the Greek word meaning “heat.” Today, Thermos is owned and managed by the Japanese company Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation since 1989.

The Consumer Organizations Council posted that the U.S. has recalled over 8 million Thermos thermal flasks after exploding lids caused severe facial injuries to 27 people, including at least 3 with permanent blindness. The council urges relevant agencies to inspect products in Thailand and calls on Thermos Thailand to clarify whether any products need to be recalled locally.
