
The Prime Minister appoints "Sihasak" as chairman of the special representative to extinguish the southern unrest, enlisting "Wannor" as an advisor and "Sergeant Aeow" as secretary.
On 11 May 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, signed Prime Minister's Office Order No. 139/2569 appointing the Special Representative Committee of the Government to resolve the southern border provinces' issues, effective from 11 May onward, to vigorously pursue peacebuilding and sustainable regional development in line with the National Strategy and National Security Plan 2023-2027.
Regarding the committee's key structure, the Prime Minister assigned Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs overseeing security in the foreign affairs dimension, as chairman. The security chief, General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defense, and Mr. Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), serve as vice-chairmen. Senior officials including relevant permanent secretaries, the Supreme Commander, the Army Commander, and the National Police Chief join the committee fully assembled.
As for the special representative committee's secretary, the Prime Minister appointed “Sergeant Aeow,” General Natthapong Praokaew, Deputy Chief of Staff, a classmate from the 26th Military Preparatory Class of the Defense Minister and the armed forces, to manage administrative operations and coordinate across all directions. Additionally, reports indicate Mr. Wan Muhamad Nor Matha has been appointed as advisor to leverage his prestige and local experience to help ease the situation.
This committee holds full authority to advance strategies and operational plans into concrete actions, coordinating between central and local agencies to accelerate problem-solving effectively. It provides recommendations for integrated work, monitors and evaluates progress, and reports obstacles directly to the NSC or the Prime Minister. The operating budget will be disbursed from the National Security Council Office, aiming to create an environment conducive to peace talks and sustainably improve the quality of life for people in the southern border provinces.
