Somchai and Dr. Ruerbin confronted the Election Commission, preparing a defamation counter-lawsuit over reputational damage, while demanding documents related to the printing of the 2026 election ballots.
On 12 May 2026, Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, former EC commissioner, along with Mr. Thamthee Sukchotirat, known as "Dr. Ruerbin," submitted a letter to the Election Commission requesting disclosure of 20 types of documents concerning the 2026 ballot printing process, which included barcodes and QR codes. These codes have drawn criticism for potentially allowing tracing back to individual voters.
Mr. Somchai stated he seeks clear explanations on the origin of the EC's resolution ordering these codes on ballots, along with related regulations, orders, and procurement documents (TOR) specifying such requirements. If these details are absent from the resolutions or TOR, it raises questions about the EC's authority to implement them. This information is crucial for protecting personal privacy rights, and he welcomes the Constitutional Court's consideration of these facts in reviewing the recent election.
Mr. Somchai also addressed developments regarding the EC's previous lawsuit against them: more than three months have passed without progress or summons from the Crime Suppression Division. However, the public leak of the defendants’ names has severely harmed their reputations and livelihoods. Therefore, on Wednesday, 20 May at 10:00 a.m., he and his team will go to the Crime Suppression Division to file a defamation counter-lawsuit against the EC and 10 officials to defend their dignity.
