Anutin Dismisses Oppositions Constitutional Court Challenge on 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree, Confident It Remains Effective

Anutin dismisses the opposition's appeal to the Constitutional Court regarding the 400 billion baht loan decree, pointing out that its publication in the Government Gazette means it is already in effect.

On 12 May 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, commented on the opposition's submission to the Constitutional Court seeking interpretation of the 400 billion baht loan decree. He said the government, as the executive branch, has carefully considered its urgent necessity and benefits to the nation. This interpretation request will not halt planned projects because the decree is already legally effective and published in the Government Gazette. Although parliamentary procedures may be delayed as the Speaker has yet to schedule the agenda due to the interpretation request, work to utilize the funds to assist the public will continue.

When asked about preparations in the worst-case scenario—if the Constitutional Court rules the decree unconstitutional—whether the government has a "Plan B" or backup plan, Anutin firmly replied, "There is only one plan: to help the people." He added that if the government lacked confidence in the legal grounds and urgent necessity, it would not have issued this loan decree in the first place. Therefore, he is not concerned about cabinet positions being seen as stakes in this matter.
