Cabinet Resolution Dissolves ERC Selection Board Due to Qualification Issues, Approves Three Bills for Parliamentary Consideration

Today's Cabinet resolution dissolves the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) selection board due to qualification issues that do not comply with legal requirements, cancels the determination of remuneration and expenses, and approves three draft bills to be submitted to Parliament for further consideration.

12 May 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that the Cabinet meeting resolved to revoke the previous Cabinet resolution dated 29 October 2024, which had approved the appointment of the selection committee for the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), as well as cancel the determination of remuneration and operational expenses for that committee. .

As for the reason for the cancellation, the Ministry of Energy reported that there remain issues with certain provisions concerning the "composition of the selection committee " under Section 14 of the Energy Industry Act B.E. 2550 (2007), specifically regarding the members representing university rectors from state higher education institutions and representatives from the Federation of Thai Industries who are not energy operators. Following this cancellation, in order to proceed efficiently and in line with current circumstances, the relevant agencies will carry out the necessary legal procedures accordingly.

Additionally, the Cabinet resolved to consider requests to Parliament for deliberation on draft bills that Parliament has not yet approved, under Section 147 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. These requests include the following draft bills:

1. Draft Product Liability Act B.E. .... (proposed by Ms. Saree Ongsomwang and 21,111 eligible voters).

2. Draft Act on Regulations of Teachers and Educational Personnel (No. ..) B.E. ....

3. Draft Act on the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council (No. ..) B.E. .... (proposed by Members of Parliament).
