The Cabinet resolution divides responsibilities among seven agencies to manage deals for the 2026 World Cup. The Ministry of Finance is ordered to grant tax exemptions, and coordination with Thaicom is planned to link live broadcast signals across Thailand.
On 13 May 2026, following the Cabinet's resolution to broadcast the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July 2026, the government instructed seven main agencies to coordinate comprehensively to prepare for live signal transmission from the United States, Canada, and Mexico, ensuring timely and lawful compliance with international copyright.
To restore joy for football fans, the Cabinet clearly assigned roles to each agency as follows: the Public Relations Department is the "main coordinator," facilitating cooperation between the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the private sector to manage the budget for copyright fees and related expenses.
The Ministry of Finance is responsible for considering tax exemptions, purchasing copyrights, and relaxing procurement regulations to maximize deal efficiency. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) oversees technical systems for receiving and transmitting signals and, importantly, must prevent signals from reaching online gambling websites. The Office of the Attorney General reviews copyright purchase contracts for legal compliance before signing. The Royal Thai Police enforce strict measures to combat football gambling nationwide throughout the tournament. The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly handle intellectual property protection and international coordination.
Beyond government agencies, the government plans to collaborate with telecommunications giants such as the National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) and Thaicom Public Company Limited to provide satellite channel support, linking signals from abroad directly to terrestrial digital television and other platforms, ensuring the public can access broadcasts thoroughly across all areas.
This systematic division of work aims to enable the "live broadcast plan" to proceed swiftly and meet the tournament's start deadline, delivering happiness to Thai football fans in line with the government's policy under Anutin’s leadership in a tangible way.
