Julphan confirmed that Pheu Thai will not field official candidates for the Bangkok Governor and Metropolitan Council elections under the party banner, but will not object if some individuals request to use the party logo for campaigning, with approvals granted on a case-by-case basis.
13 May 2026 GMT+7 Julphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, commented on the upcoming contest for the Bangkok Governor election in 2026 stating Pheu Thai is clear because, in fact, we have not fielded a Bangkok Governor candidate for several past elections. This time is no different; we have not decided to nominate a candidate for this race.
Similarly, for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC), we are not nominating candidates under the party name. However, I want to clarify that even though we announced no official candidates or long-serving party members would run, many supporters and believers remain committed to working under the party's name. Some have requested permission to use the party logo as party members, and as party leader, I will consider these requests individually. When some candidates express this wish, we are happy and have no objection. But if you ask whether the party is fielding candidates in every district or officially, the answer is no. These are personal candidacies by individuals who want to continue working under the party's name, merely requesting permission to use the party logo.
Furthermore, Julphan explained the reason for not fielding a Bangkok Governor candidate this time, saying the party meeting did not discuss it as such. Instead, we assessed readiness and appropriateness. Pheu Thai is a national party focusing primarily on major elections and has occasionally fielded local candidates in some provinces. However, at lower levels like municipalities, we have never formally nominated candidates. Regarding independent candidates for Bangkok Governor who want to use the party logo, no requests have yet been received.
