Government Reports 121,921 Online Crime Cases in First Four Months of 2026, Losses Total 7.48 Billion Baht

The government continues its crackdown on online crime, reporting 121,921 cases in the first four months of 2026 with total damages amounting to 7.48 billion baht. The number of fraud cases has started to decrease.

On 14 May 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government is persistently combating online crime, especially by blocking all illegal social media, pages, and website URLs to cut off key channels used by criminal networks. This aligns with the government's policy to prevent and resolve security and social problems. The Anti-Online Scam Center (ACSC) revealed its analysis of reported online crime cases and scammers' methods from 1 January to 30 April 2026 over 120 days, finding 121,921 cases with total damages of 7.48 billion baht. The ACSC analysis identified three main types of fraud.

1. Fraud related to goods and services had the highest number of cases at 85,215, representing 69.9% of all cases. The average damage per case was 15,727 baht. These cases fluctuated with seasonal online shopping periods, peaking in March 2026 with 22,908 cases and damages totaling 353.3 million baht, then declining in April to 20,823 cases and 288.3 million baht in damages, reflecting seasonal effects and the impact of warning measures.

2. Fraud involving investment and benefits caused the highest financial loss of 5.9977 billion baht, or 80.2% of the total damages. The average damage per case was 166,449 baht, about 10 times higher than the first type. However, this category has shown a continuous decline since January, dropping from 10,146 cases to 6,642 cases in April, a decrease of approximately 34.5% over four months. This reflects the results of ACSC operations, AOC case handling, and ongoing strict law enforcement.

3. Proactive technical attacks and other technology-related frauds require the criminals' technical skills. While the number of cases is the lowest at 673, accounting for 0.55%, the average damage per case is the highest at 211,686 baht. This represents a high-level threat that has been growing alarmingly, especially in March with 385 cases causing 87.7 million baht in damages. These cases mainly involved large-scale Phishing, Hacking, and Ransomware incidents with high per-case losses.

"The government warns the public not to trust or click on links or enter information sent via any application or platform. Do not trust anyone claiming to be an official without verifying through the official agency first before conducting any transactions or investments. Always check with SEC Check first to confirm the legitimacy of any company. Do not transfer money before carefully verifying the recipient’s account for your own safety. Most importantly, remain vigilant: do not trust and do not transfer money under any circumstances," she said.
