On 14 May 2026, reporters reported that following Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with cabinet members and senior officials of the Ministry of Interior, visiting to monitor problems related to foreign nominees, public land encroachment, and illegal business operations at Freedom Beach in Phuket and Koh Phangan in Surat Thani on 13 May.
A recent report from the Government House revealed that during this visit, Anutin urgently summoned Narucha Kosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, and ordered an investigation into the performance of district chiefs and administrative officials in Phuket and Surat Thani. He questioned why they allowed foreign nominee issues, public land encroachment, and illegal activities to occur in these areas.
After the Prime Minister’s site visit, he witnessed outright violations and received complaints from citizens indicating that officials at various levels—including administrative officers, police, and other agencies—were involved or neglectful regarding these illegal actions.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, who also serves as a committee member of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (PLO), to utilize PLO mechanisms to specially investigate the financial transactions of administrative officials and police officers in Phuket and Surat Thani. If connections to foreign nominee networks or illicit profit-seeking are found, strict legal and disciplinary actions must be taken. This directive clearly signals the government’s intent to dismantle the influence and illegal operations of gray capital groups increasingly affecting key tourist areas.
