The People's Party urged the government not to block the formation of a special committee to audit spending under the 400 billion baht loan emergency decree, warning that unless the government intends to insert hidden agendas or conceal budget transparency from parliament, it should not obstruct the process.

Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, Member of Parliament (MP) and leader of the People's Party (PP), as well as leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives, held a press conference urging the government to agree to establish a special parliamentary committee to audit spending under the emergency decree authorizing the Ministry of Finance to borrow funds to address the energy crisis and support the country's energy transition in 2026. (Emergency loan decree) with a budget of 400 billion baht. . He said the party has already submitted an urgent written motion. Therefore, the government has no other valid reason to oppose unless it intends to insert hidden agendas or conceal full transparency of every baht spent from parliamentary scrutiny, in which case it should not obstruct the formation of this special committee.

Mr. Natthapong added that the motion must await scheduling on the parliamentary agenda. Urgent motions are prioritized and expected to be considered next week. However, if there is consensus, an urgent verbal motion can be proposed during the session and voted on quickly. Given the country's tight fiscal space, spending the 400 billion baht loan must be done with utmost precision. Hence, establishing a special committee to specifically examine this matter is essential.
