Reserve Senator Requests Investigation into Prapats Appointment to NACC Despite Pending Case

Akrawat has petitioned the Parliamentary Law Committee to investigate Prapat, questioning how he could be appointed to the National Anti-Corruption Commission despite having a pending case, and whether there was a special intention to protect anyone. Rome has accepted the petition and plans to summon all involved parties for clarification.

On 15 May 2026 at the Parliament, Akrawat Phongthanachalitkul, a reserve senator, submitted a letter to Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party and chairman of the Parliamentary Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee. The letter concerns Prapat Kong-ied, a commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), who was previously indicted by the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct and the Appeals Court for offenses related to his official duties while serving on the committee selecting contractors for the Orange Line electric train project from Bang Khun Non to Min Buri (Suwinthawong). This case arose before Prapat was appointed as an NACC commissioner, a position he was granted royal endorsement for on 30 Jan 2025, after the Senate approved his appointment with a vote of 173 to 6. Prapat is defendant number 5 in this case. However, upon reviewing the records, no prior wrongdoing was found, raising questions about whether information was concealed.

"Prapat has a pending criminal case. It is unclear how the Senate’s selection process allowed this to pass. He also ruled on the case of Sak Siam Chidchob, former Minister of Transport, as one of the NACC votes dismissing the case, contrary to public opinion and the Constitutional Court’s ruling. This suggests Prapat may have used strategies to evade his case without informing the selection committee of his offense, yet he received royal appointment. This indicates the selection process overlooked this issue. Therefore, I request the Parliamentary Law Committee investigate whether Prapat’s appointment was intended to protect someone or to cover up the former Transport Minister’s case, despite the Constitutional Court’s decision. Prapat should acknowledge this and cease performing his duties," Akrawat said.

Rangsiman Rome said this is the first complaint received by the Parliamentary Law Committee. He will listen to facts from all parties, including the complainant and the accused, supported by court verdicts, requiring detailed study. The committee will discuss how to proceed in upcoming meetings. If the complaint is verified, it will have significant implications for multiple agencies.
