Deputy Education Minister Makes Surprise Checks on School Lunches and Milk, Plans More Visits

Deputy Education Minister Akkranun took nutritionists on a surprise inspection of lunch and milk quality at Wat Suan Dok School, expressing satisfaction with the standards and emphasizing the importance of good food quality. He also revealed plans to make more unannounced visits to other schools in the future.

On 15 May 2026, Mr. Akkranun Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education, accompanied by Ms. Linthiporn Warinwatcharot, Assistant Minister of Education, Ms. Paramee Waichongcharoen, Mr. Raweepat Jirasakwatthana, Deputy Minister’s team members, and Dr. Kesthip Supawanich, conducted a surprise visit to Wat Suan Dok School in Chiang Mai Province. The purpose was to inspect the quality of student lunches and drinking water systems, focusing on addressing real on-site issues at the start of the new academic term.

Mr. Akkranun said that during the visit, it was found that the students’ meals met nutritional standards, including appropriate portions of rice and starch, meat, eggs, oil, fruit, and milk, all in accordance with Thai school lunch standards. However, he recommended that the school increase vegetable dishes to provide a more complete range of nutrients from all five food groups, given the students’ growth stage. Parents can be assured that their children’s nutrition is being carefully managed. He acknowledged that each school has different contexts but stressed that the core priority is sufficient quality and quantity.

The Deputy Minister also checked the drinking water system and discovered that the school had not yet proceeded with the procurement of water dispensing equipment. He immediately coordinated efforts to expedite the resolution so that students have adequate access to clean drinking water. He intends to use surprise visits like this at many other locations throughout the school term to directly address the true challenges schools face.

“I want to emphasize that this visit was not to find faults but to identify problems and help unlock issues that schools are facing. Whatever support the Ministry can provide, we will act immediately to make educational institutions safe and ready spaces for all students,” Mr. Akkranun said.
