Anucha Opens Up About Running for Bangkok Governor, Emphasizes Convenient, Clean, Comfortable Policy

Anucha reveals his return to the Democrat Party to run for Bangkok governor, promoting the policy of "Convenient, Clean, Comfortable," confident that Bangkok residents will cast their votes for him.

On 16 May 2026, Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, the prospective Democrat Party candidate for Bangkok governor, opened up about his decision to return to local politics. He admitted that after the early dissolution of parliament, he had planned to retire and step away from politics to enjoy retirement. As a former Bangkok MP and party-list MP for three terms, he had already presented ideas to address macroeconomic structural issues and break the middle-income trap in parliament. However, when the Democrat Party approached him with another opportunity, he felt reignited by the prospect, as Bangkok's problems are close to his heart and he wants to actively work to achieve tangible results.

Anucha added that the key factor in deciding to return under the Democrat Party banner, besides the opportunity given by party leadership, was sharing aligned working principles and ideals under the leadership of party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, who emphasizes "honest politics." This gave him confidence he is not fighting alone but has a team and 50 district council candidates ready to move forward together. His vision for Bangkok is to transform the capital into the "City of Eternal Sky" or "And more," making it a livable city with a future for young generations and potential that surpasses its current state.

Regarding his main campaign policy, Anucha stressed it is not a fantasy but based on realistic foundations: developing "convenience, cleanliness, and comfort" to ease daily concerns for Bangkok residents. "Convenience" means improving the transportation system and upgrading district office services to be equal, transparent, and queue-based without favoritism. "Cleanliness" focuses on environmental management, waste, and dust control alongside zero-tolerance for corruption. "Comfort" aims to enhance quality of life so citizens feel physically and mentally at ease. Although polls may show the party trailing or out of sight, he and the party remain undeterred, ready to campaign straightforwardly and confident that their genuine commitment will win back Bangkok voters to entrust the Democrat Party with managing the capital once again.
