
The Prime Minister has instructed agencies to urgently assist following a train colliding with a bus after receiving reports during his visit to the Si Thep World Heritage Site. He plans to fly back to Bangkok to visit the area immediately. The government requests cooperation to refrain from publishing or sharing images of the injured and deceased from the incident.
On 16 May 2026 at 17:00, Ms. Lalida Pertwiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was on-site visiting “Khao Khlang Nok,” one of the significant archaeological sites within the Si Thep World Heritage Site in Phetchabun Province.
During the visit, the Prime Minister received a report of a container freight train colliding with a scheduled bus, causing a fire near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station. He ordered all relevant agencies to expedite assistance to the injured, provide care for the families of the deceased, facilitate medical treatment, thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident, and closely monitor the situation.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister stated that the Deputy Minister of Transport has already gone to the site to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has prepared to receive the injured by directing Lerdsin Hospital, Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital, and Rajavithi Hospital to prepare their emergency rooms, operating theaters, ICUs, and burn units, as well as to ensure an adequate blood supply.
Initially, Rajavithi Hospital has admitted 2 patients classified as red (critical) and 5 as yellow (serious). The Department of Mental Health requests the public to cooperate by refraining from sharing or publishing images of the injured and deceased from the incident.
After the site visit, the Prime Minister proceeded to Phutai Subdistrict Municipality, Wichian Buri District, Phetchabun Province, to preside over the opening ceremony of the annual “Huk Bung Fai Phutai” rocket festival 2026.
A reporter reported that after 18:30, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presided over the opening ceremony of the 2026 Huk Bung Fai Phutai festival in front of the Phutai Subdistrict Municipality office, Wichian Buri District, Phetchabun Province. Upon completion, the Prime Minister will return to Bangkok and then proceed to inspect the site of the train colliding with a bus and crashing into an expressway pier at Asok-Din Daeng Road near Rama 9 and Asok-Phet intersections, close to the Makkasan railway area. Several people were injured and there were fatalities. It is expected that the Prime Minister will arrive at the site between 20:00 and 21:00 on the same day.
