Supamas represented the government at the 34th anniversary ceremony of the May Democracy Uprising, reaffirming the government's commitment to advancing democracy through peaceful means, respecting diverse opinions, and sending support and remembrance to the families of those who lost their lives and those affected.

17 May 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, represented the government in laying wreaths and honoring the heroes of the May Democracy Uprising on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the May 1992 events. She attended on behalf of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul at Santi Phon Park, the May Democracy Uprising Memorial on Ratchadamnoen Road, Bangkok. After the ceremony, Ms. Lalida Pertwivatana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, shared key points from the event’s statement.

Ms. Supamas said the government felt deeply honored to participate in commemorating a significant chapter in Thai political history, reflecting the power and resolve of the people to uphold the rule of law and a democratic system that respects the voice of the people. Although more than three decades have passed, the values and lessons of the May Democracy Uprising remain relevant to Thailand’s democratic development today. She noted that differing opinions are normal in a democracy, but the important thing is to seek solutions peacefully based on reason, understanding, and mutual listening.

The government representative emphasized that the government is committed to governing the country without violence, focusing on dialogue, reconciliation, and creating space for all sectors to participate in solving national problems together. This approach aims to foster a peaceful atmosphere, respect differing opinions, and maintain sustainable democratic principles. She then joined in paying respects to the heroes who lost their lives during the May Democracy Uprising and sent encouragement and remembrance to the families and all those affected, emphasizing that the sacrifice and courage of these heroes will continue to inspire Thai society to move forward on the path of democracy, peace, and justice for future generations.

The event featured wreath-laying and tributes honoring the heroes who sacrificed during the May Democracy Uprising, along with religious ceremonies and a discussion titled “May Talk: Thailand’s Hope.” This was organized to reflect on political lessons and pathways for Thailand’s democratic development, with representatives from the government, political sectors, civil society, relatives of the heroes, and democracy organizations attending together.
