A profile of “Hia Tai Khlong Toei” Suchai Pongpianchop, who has announced his intention to continue his work as Khlong Toei District Councilor under the Democrat Party banner.
On 17 May 2026, Mr. Suchai Pongpianchop, known locally as “Tai Khlong Toei” or “Councilor Tai,” is a prominent figure in local politics and community work in Khlong Toei district, having been elected as a member of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council for Khlong Toei in 2022.
Biography Suchai Pongpianchop (Tai) was born on 7 December 1965 and will turn 61 this year.
- He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration (marketing) from Bangkok University.
- He has played an active role in the slum community, having served as chairman of the Civil Defense Volunteer and Disaster Relief Committee (CDVDR) in Khlong Toei district.
- In 2021, he was appointed advisor to the Governor of Bangkok during Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang’s administration.
- In the 2022 district council election, Suchai was a key leader of the independent "Rak Krungthep" group, which openly supported Pol. Gen. Aswin's bid for another term as Governor of Bangkok. Although Pol. Gen. Aswin was unsuccessful, Suchai was elected as Khlong Toei District Councilor for the first time.
Furthermore, Suchai and his family maintain close ties with Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, leader of the Kla Party. Suchai has stated that they have known each other since they were 18, growing up and doing business together. Their joint business was the company Talad Khlong Toei (2551) Co., Ltd., which currently manages Khlong Toei Market. Both were shareholders until political conditions required them to transfer shares to their families—Lt. Col. Thammanat became Deputy Minister of Agriculture in 2019, while Suchai ran for district councilor in 2022.
In addition to Suchai, the close relationship between the two families is evident through Suchai’s older brother, Mr. Suthee Pongpianchop, nicknamed “Moo,” who served as former advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives during Lt. Col. Thammanat’s tenure as minister, and also as his personal secretary. When their father, Mr. Phitsanu Pongpianchop, a former assistant manager of Phayao FC football team, passed away at age 78, Lt. Col. Thammanat participated as a host in the seven-day funeral rites and presided over the cremation ceremony, underscoring the strong family ties. Suchai has affirmed that their relationship “is not related to political matters.”
After the “Rak Krungthep” group dissolved, Suchai reemerged, announcing his candidacy for Khlong Toei District Councilor once again, this time under the Democrat Party, alongside candidates for all 50 districts. On his personal Facebook page, he wrote, “I volunteer to run again to continue the work I started,” accompanied by the slogan “Continuing the work, acting sincerely, for our Khlong Toei.” Work history: Committee member 2022 - 2026
