Prime Minister Meets with Outgoing Peruvian Ambassador to Discuss Expanding Agricultural Cooperation

Prime Minister Anutin met with the Peruvian Ambassador on her farewell occasion, praising her role in strengthening relations on the 60th anniversary, discussing logistics and trade free trade agreement (FTA) nearing completion, affirming their enduring friendship, and welcoming her back to Thailand at any time.


At 9:00 a.m. on 18 May 2026, H.E. Ms. Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Thailand, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul to bid farewell upon completing her tenure. The meeting took place in the Prime Minister's office on the 2nd floor of the Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House.

Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed key points of the discussion: The Prime Minister and the Peruvian Ambassador held a cordial meeting. The Ambassador expressed her admiration for Thailand and appreciation for the support Thailand has given Peru. She noted the close and longstanding ties between the two countries and felt honored to have contributed to elevating Thai-Peruvian relations and strengthening cooperation across various areas during her tenure.


Regarding economic matters, both sides welcomed progress in negotiations on the Thailand-Peru free trade agreement (FTA) and hoped to expedite signing within this year. On food security, both agreed that Thailand and Peru have strong agricultural potential and saw many opportunities to expand cooperation in the future. The Prime Minister expressed readiness to position Thailand as an important food source for Peru and the South American region.

On logistics, the Peruvian Ambassador mentioned the Chancay Port project, where Thailand could participate. This project would enhance logistics and supply chain connections and promote trade links between South America and ASEAN, with Thailand serving as a key gateway in the region. At the conclusion, the Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for promoting Thai-Peruvian relations, wished her success in her future career, emphasized that she would always be a good friend to Thailand, and warmly welcomed her back to visit Thailand anytime.
