Songsak Chairs First National Land Policy Committee Meeting, Orders Scan of Foreign Nominee Land Holdings

Songsak Thongsri chaired the first meeting of the National Land Policy Committee, focusing on allocating farmland to citizens. He affirmed the process is unrelated to the Land Bridge area and ordered a scan of foreign nationals using nominees to hold land, warning of immediate legal action if violations occur.

At 10:40 a.m. on 18 May 2026 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri chaired the first National Land Policy Committee meeting of 2026, attended by relevant agencies. He opened by explaining that the Prime Minister assigned him as chair of this key committee, which drives policies addressing land and soil resource management issues. He emphasized the importance of land as a fundamental guarantee for family livelihoods, stating that when citizens have secure, rightful land tenure, it contributes to family happiness and life stability.

Before the meeting, Songsak clarified that the land allocation concerns only unused state land for citizens to farm and is not related to land allocation under the Land Bridge project. The allocation targets will be based on data from land-owning agencies, with a focus on promoting cultivation and product development.

When asked about addressing cases where foreigners use nominees to hold land, Songsak said that some land is encroached upon, and some land is properly owned but held by nominees. Investigations are ongoing, and if violations are confirmed, legal action will be taken decisively.
