Nattakarn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Democrat Party, urged the Election Commission (EC) to clarify the anti-counterfeiting system for Bangkok governor and councilor ballots, fearing a repeat of issues from the parliamentary elections.
On 18 May 2026, Mr. Nattakarn Chuchana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Democrat Party (DP), commented on the Election Commission's (EC) preparation meeting for local elections in Bangkok and Pattaya. EC Secretary-General Mr. Sa-ngaeng Boonmee stated that the ballots would have anti-counterfeiting measures different from those used in the February 2026 parliamentary elections, which featured barcode and QR code systems currently under Constitutional Court review. Nattakarn said the EC should clearly explain the local election ballot anti-fraud system well in advance of the 28 June election to assure the public that the vote will be honest, fair, and conducted with secret ballots. He cited Section 10, paragraph two, of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act, B.E. 2562 (2019), which states that elections must be by direct and secret ballot—an essential principle in democratic elections.
He therefore called on the EC to publicly clarify the anti-counterfeiting measures for this election, detailing their nature and whether they sufficiently guarantee that no loopholes exist allowing the identification or tracing of voters, which could lead to legal doubts and repeat problems similar to those in the last parliamentary election.
