Labor Minister Julaphan Amornwiwat pledged to riders to open a platform for establishing a working group to tackle major platform labor issues, ensuring they receive protection under labor laws and basic welfare benefits, and vowed to see tangible results within one year.
On 18 May 2026, Julaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, spoke after receiving a letter of demands from the Platform Workers Federation and discussing ways to protect and provide welfare for platform workers, especially riders.
Julaphan said that from initial talks, he, the Ministry of Labor, and the Platform Workers Federation share the same perspective on the problems, particularly the key issue of defining the employee-employer relationship between riders and platform service providers, which affects access to various benefits.
"This is an important challenge for me and the Pheu Thai Party. I declared from the first day in office that I want to bring platform workers into the system to ensure they receive protection under labor laws and equal basic welfare benefits."
Julaphan also revealed that the Ministry of Labor is ready to create a special task force to directly address this issue, allowing representatives from civil society and riders to participate. Urgent topics include examining whether all types of platform workers can join Social Security under Section 33, and if some groups do not meet existing criteria, studying legal amendments to develop an appropriate model for protection and benefits.
He confirmed that the Ministry of Labor will expedite this work with a target timeframe of achieving concrete outcomes within one year from now.
