Anutin Holds Security Situation Review, Orders His Portrait Displayed at PMs Office Without Waiting for Term to End

Anutin held discussions with agencies to summarize the security situation, emphasizing the importance of intelligence units in national administration. He ordered his portrait to be displayed at the Prime Minister's Office as a good omen, without waiting until leaving office.

At 14:10 on 18 May 2026, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Chanvirakul chaired a meeting to review the country's security situation with the intelligence community in the Green Room of the Thai Koo Fah Building at Government House. Attending were Foreign Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew, Lieutenant General Wanat Laksanasee, Director of the Intelligence Office of the Internal Security Operations Command, Thanat Suwannanon, Director of the National Intelligence Agency, Lieutenant General Teeranan Nantkhrang, Army Intelligence Chief, Rear Admiral Natthaphon Promkhunthong, Navy Intelligence Chief, Air Lieutenant General Angkarn Inthara, Air Force Intelligence Chief, Lieutenant General Sumet Phromtrut, Commander of the Security Operations Center, and Police Lieutenant General Yaswin Hansamon, Commander of the Special Branch Police, among others.

The Prime Minister opened the meeting by thanking everyone for compiling information and summarizing the security situation. He noted that they have been closely monitoring global developments and the country’s security context, stressing that intelligence agencies are the most vital in national governance. Therefore, this meeting was necessary.

The agenda included discussions on security situations along the border, ahead of the National Security Council meeting scheduled for 20 May.

Reporters added that inside the Thai Koo Fah Building, a portrait of Anutin was hung on the wall of the Prime Minister's Office. This marks a change in tradition, as normally portraits in the Prime Minister's Office are only displayed after the Prime Minister leaves office. In this case, Anutin's portrait was hung while he is still in office, as a symbolic good omen.
