The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has found Boonsong Teriyapirom to be illegally wealthy in the rice pledging corruption case, uncovering assets worth 107 million baht in accounts held by Boonsong, his wife, children, and mother-in-law with unverifiable origins. The case is set to be forwarded to prosecutors to petition the Supreme Court's Political Division for asset seizure in favor of the state.
On 18 May 2026, Mr. Surapong Intrathaworn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), stated: The NACC committee resolved to charge Mr. Boonsong Teriyapirom, former Minister of Commerce, with illicit enrichment amounting to 107,020,830 baht. Investigations revealed that between 18 January 2012 and 30 June 2013, while Boonsong served as Minister of Commerce and was appointed Deputy Chairman of the National Rice Policy Committee and Chairman of the Rice Sale Subcommittee, he earned a combined salary and position allowance of 2,083,320 baht. His spouse earned 200,000 baht annually from land rent, while their child was still a student.
However, numerous bank transactions were found in accounts under Boonsong, his spouse, child, and two limited companies founded by Boonsong, with the spouse's mother authorized to withdraw funds, all without clear sources of income. Subsequent Supreme Court verdicts in the Political Office Holder Criminal Division on 25 August 2017 and 28 May 2019, supplemented by the appellate judgment on 6 September 2019, concluded that Boonsong committed fraud related to the rice pledging and state-to-state rice sales programs, causing severe financial damage and budget leakage.
The NACC Secretary-General added: Assets held by Boonsong and closely related individuals and entities during his tenure, totaling 107,020,830 baht, cannot be accounted for and are thus deemed illicit enrichment, detailed as follows:
1. Bank deposit under Boonsong's name, one account, 300,000 baht.
2. Bank deposits under the spouse's name, two accounts, totaling 3.1 million baht.
3. Bank deposits under the child's name, five accounts, totaling 70,598,700 baht.
4. Bank deposits under two limited companies, with the spouse's mother authorized to withdraw funds, two accounts totaling 33,022,130 baht.
The NACC committee concluded that Boonsong is illicitly wealthy, possessing or acquiring assets far beyond lawful means related to his official duties, totaling 107,020,830 baht. They resolved to forward the investigation to the Attorney General to petition the Supreme Court's Political Division to order these illicit assets to become state property. Under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2018, if it is not possible to recover all illicit assets as determined by the NACC, the court is authorized to enforce the recovery of other assets from the accused within 10 years, pursuant to the same law.
