Prime Minister Vows Best Effort on 2026 World Cup Broadcast Rights, Emphasizes Government as Coordinator Only

Anutin said "Best Effort" to try his best to find ways to acquire the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights, emphasizing that no public funds are used and the government serves only as a coordinator.

18 May 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, commented on reports that the government might back down from purchasing the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights, which will be hosted from 11 June to 19 July 2026 by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He said the government is coordinating with utmost effort and has been exploring every possible avenue and channel.

When asked about the idea of using the budget intended for the World Cup broadcast rights to support Thai football instead, the Prime Minister responded, that no public or budget funds are being used; rather, the government coordinates to assist those who express willingness to make it happen and facilitates all necessary arrangements. Reporters further asked if Thai people still have a chance to watch the World Cup, to which Anutin replied, "Best Effort" (we will try our best).
