Three Ministers Absent from Cabinet Meeting Deputy PM Yotsanan to Propose Skill Portfolio Development

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led the Cabinet meeting. Three ministers reported their absence, while Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanan prepared to propose the skill portfolio for human resource development at the meeting.

On 19 May 2026 at 10:00 a.m., in meeting room 501, Government House Building 1, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the Cabinet meeting. Reporters noted that on the same day, three ministers notified their absence from the meeting: 1. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health; 2. Nikorn Somkalang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security; 3. Sanphet Boonyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotsanan Wongsawat said the promotion of the skill portfolio, studied over two years, is similar to Singapore’s skill future program that helped revive its economy. For example, taxi drivers were trained in AI and became programmers. Thailand has studied this concept for some time, but current economic issues and budget changes require adapting the technology mix. He will discuss this with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as the matter has previously passed Cabinet and is necessary for the country. Given the changed context, it should be re-presented to Cabinet to proceed carefully, focusing on developing human resources to enhance skills in traditional economic sectors and support new economic engines.
