Julphan emphasized that the Pheu Thai Party supports creating a new constitution but admitted their 74 seats are insufficient. He plans to seek supportive mechanisms in parliament and is ready to discuss with coalition parties.
At 09:25 on 19 May 2026 at the Government House, Julphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor and leader of the Pheu Thai Party (PT), addressed the party's push to amend the constitution. He acknowledged that PT's seats fall short, as the amendment process requires 100 votes, but PT currently has 74. He stressed that their position supports drafting a new constitution. Regarding the referendum, that remains on the table. He said they must find cooperation mechanisms because if votes are insufficient, it depends on parliamentary collaboration—how much they can negotiate and whether those they talk with are ready to support the draft they have prepared. He said they will have to wait and see.
When asked whether they would talk with the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT), Julphan said they must talk with BJT as well. Asked if talks would include coalition parties, he said there are already platforms for discussion, but they have not yet addressed this matter. He added that it is still a new issue and there are more urgent matters to deal with.
