Profile of Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, who will act as the Bangkok Governor following Chadchart's resignation. Chadchart has announced his resignation and plans to run for a second term.


On 19 May 2026, following Chadchart Sithiphan's announcement of his resignation the evening of 18 May to attend to personal matters, including his son's graduation abroad, and his intention to run again for Bangkok Governor in the "Bangkok Works" team, he is currently unable to perform acting duties. However, the law allows Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, to act as caretaker to maintain order and manage Bangkok's affairs until a new governor is appointed.


Profile of Narong Ruangsri

Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, was born on 23 May 1966. He completed his secondary education at Horwang School, earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Rajamangala University of Technology, Thonburi Campus, and a master's degree in public administration from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

Narong is a longtime Bangkok career official who advanced through engineering and drainage roles, starting at the operational level and rising to the highest civil service rank. His work vision emphasizes "honesty, transparency, and fairness" and prioritizes the public interest to swiftly solve urban problems.

  • In 1985, he began public service as a civil engineer in the Drainage Control Division, Drainage Department.
  • In 2003, he became Head of Engineering, Water Control Structures Division, Drainage Department.
  • In 2010, he was Director of the Water Control Structures Division, Drainage Department.
  • In 2012, he became Director of the Canal System Division, Drainage Department.
  • In 2016, he was Deputy Director of the Drainage Department.
  • In 2018, he served as Director of the Drainage Department, playing a key role in water management and Bangkok flood mitigation.
  • In 2021, he was appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok.
  • Since 1 October 2025, he has served as the 22nd Permanent Secretary of Bangkok.
