Cabinet Appoints Somsak as Director-General of Revenue Department, Extends Rail Transport Department Chief’s Term by One Year

The Cabinet resolved to appoint Somsak Anantawat as Director-General of the Revenue Department, replacing Kulaya Tantitemit, and to extend the term of the Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport by one more year.


On 19 May 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet meeting resolved to appoint individuals to various positions as follows:

1. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Energy's proposal to appoint Mr. Izmir Kamarudin, nominated by the Malaysian government, as Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the Thai-Malaysian Joint Organization, replacing the previous DCEO nominated by Malaysia who was changed at their request. His term runs from 3 February 2026 to 30 September 2028, continuing the original term. Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas has given his approval.

2. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Justice's proposal to appoint acting ministers of justice in cases where the position is vacant or the minister is unable to perform duties, under Section 42 of the State Administration Act, B.E. 2534 (1991), as follows:

1. The Minister of Defence (General Dul Boonthamcharoen)
2. The Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office (Ms. Suksomruay Wantaniyagul)
The Prime Minister has approved these appointments.

3. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' proposal to appoint Miss Pranom Janmai, a civil servant expert cooperative academic at the Department of Cooperative Promotion, as a cooperative expert (senior cooperative academic) at the same department, effective 6 August 2025, the date she fully met qualifications. Deputy Prime Minister Yotchanan Wongsawat has also approved this appointment, effective from the royal appointment date.

4. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Commerce's proposals as follows:

1. Approved the nomination of Ms. Pimchanok Pitfield, Thailand’s Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization and World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, as a candidate for Deputy Director General (DDG) and Assistant Director General (ADG) positions at WIPO.
2. Authorized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare and send the Letter of Nomination to WIPO through their specified channels to officially nominate Ms. Pimchanok Pitfield for the DDG and ADG positions on behalf of Thailand.

5. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' proposal to appoint two civil servants to senior executive positions to fill vacancies as follows:

1. Miss Phensom Lertsitchai, Deputy Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs, to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Embassy in Doha, Qatar.
2. Mr. Sek Nopthaisong, Consul General at the Consulate General in Chengdu, China, to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Embassy in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.

These appointments take effect from the date of royal appointment. Both receiving countries have approved the appointments. Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew has also given his approval.

The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Finance's proposal to appoint Mr. Somsak Anantawat, currently Strategic Tax Collection Advisor (Energy Business Group) and Senior Policy and Planning Analyst at the Revenue Department, Ministry of Finance, to the position of Director-General (Senior Executive) of the Revenue Department, Ministry of Finance, to fill the vacancy. This appointment is effective from the date of royal appointment. The reporter notes this follows Ms. Kulaya Tantitemit's resignation from service effective 1 May 2026.

7. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society's proposal to appoint Mr. Theerawut Thongphak, a civil servant currently Deputy Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Committee, to the position of Inspector General of the Ministry, replacing a vacancy. Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn has approved this, effective from the royal appointment date.

8. The Cabinet approved the Budget Bureau's proposal to appoint Ms. Patcharaporn Sitthipong, Senior Budget Analyst and Advisor, as Deputy Director of the Budget Bureau (Senior Executive), effective from the date of royal appointment.

9. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Transport's proposal as follows: To extend the term of Mr. Pichet Kunathamrak as Director-General (Senior Executive) of the Department of Rail Transport, Ministry of Transport, for one more year from 21 May 2026 to 20 May 2027. This extension aims to ensure continuity and effectiveness in the department's administration. Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn has given his approval.

10. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Transport's proposal to appoint Mr. Piyapong Jiwattanakulpaisan as Chairman of the State Railway of Thailand Board, replacing Mr. Jiruth Wisaljit, who resigned. This appointment takes effect from 19 May 2026. The appointee will serve the remaining term of his predecessor. Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn has approved this.

11. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' proposal to appoint Mr. Sathaporn Jaiaree as an expert board member (management) on the Board of the King Rama IX Agricultural Museum Office, replacing Mr. Rattana Swamichai, who left before completing his term. This is effective from 19 May 2026, and the new member will serve the remaining term. Deputy Prime Minister Yotchanan Wongsawat has approved this.

12. The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Commerce's proposal for the appointment of Ms. Worawan Chitarun as a member of the Trade Competition Commission. She was selected by the Nomination Committee to replace a member who retired early at age 70. The appointee will serve the remaining term. Deputy Prime Minister Supachai Sutthampan has approved this.

13. The Cabinet approved the Secretariat of the Prime Minister's Office's proposal to appoint two political officials as follows:

1. Mr. Phinitmeth Thekthananon as Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs (Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri).
2. Ms. Jidapha Suntornthanakul as Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister (Songsak Thongsri).
These appointments take effect from 19 May 2026.

14. The Cabinet approved the Secretariat of the Prime Minister's Office's proposal to appoint three political officials assigned to the Secretariat as follows:

1. Mr. Arinchai Susan
2. Mr. Sastra Sripan
3. Mr. Khosali Dusamah
These appointments take effect from 19 May 2026.

15. The Cabinet approved the Secretariat of the Prime Minister's Office's proposal to appoint Mr. Boonkaew Somwong as Assistant Ministerial Board Member, effective from the date the Prime Minister signs the appointment proclamation.
