Government Advances Thai-French Relations, Greenlights 3-Year Strategic Partnership Plan to Promote Clean Energy and Soft Power

The government is advancing Thai-French relations by preparing to sign a strategic partnership plan for 2026-2028 in Paris on 25 May. This paves the way for cooperation in clean energy and promotes Thailand's soft power and long-term economy.

On 20 May 2026, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that Thailand and France are preparing to sign a draft joint action plan to strengthen the Thai-French partnership for 2026-2028 (2026-2571 BE) on 25 May 2026 in Paris, France. This will serve as a framework to drive cooperation between the two countries over the next three years.

The Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson said the new draft joint action plan will be a mechanism to build on Thai-French cooperation across many dimensions, including clean energy, economy, research, and creative industries. The goal is to elevate the bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” while increasing collaboration on key issues aligned with global trends, such as the transition to decarbonized energy and promoting Thailand’s soft power in fashion, film, and cuisine.

The framework for cooperation between Thailand and France covers four key areas: enhancing dialogue on politics, security, and global issues; defense collaboration; strengthening economic relations through long-term cooperation development; and cooperation in research and people-to-people exchanges.

The signing of this draft joint action plan marks an important step in Thai-French relations, helping to build on economic, technological, energy, and human capacity development cooperation. It aims to create new opportunities and foster long-term collaboration between the two countries.
