At 15:07 on 20 May 2026, at the National Security Council building, Government House, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the third National Security Council meeting of 2026. Present were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Akniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaichon Chidchob, along with military commanders, the National Police Chief, permanent secretaries of Defence and Interior Ministries, and the National Security Council Secretary-General.
Before the meeting, reporters asked Minister Chaichon about the agenda items for the day. He briefly replied, "There are three agenda items, but they are confidential. We have to wait until after the meeting, then the Prime Minister will make a statement." When asked if the meeting would cover issues related to Thailand-Malaysia and Thailand-Cambodia, Minister Chaichon responded, "There are topics related to Thailand-Cambodia."
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak was asked whether his visit to the southern border today to meet with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) would be reported at the meeting. He said it was just information gathering with nothing specific yet, but it depends on whether there is anything to report later. Regarding the appointment of General Somsak Rungsita, former National Security Council Secretary-General, as chairman of the new Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), he said it would be decided whether to bring it to the National Security Council meeting. "We will see," he said. Reporters added that today's agenda reportedly involves three items related to the Thailand-Cambodia border issue.
At 16:20, Prime Minister Anutin left the National Security Council meeting early, handing over the chairmanship to Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak. When asked about the case of Ms. Sirikan Tansakul, Deputy Leader of the People’s Party, who accused the government of secretly using loan funds for the State Welfare Card program, the Prime Minister said only to ask Deputy Prime Minister Akniti, who was still in the meeting and would come out shortly. When asked if the overall meeting went well, the Prime Minister said, "Very well, everything is okay."
