The National Security Council (NSC) approved three measures, including the export of Jet A-1 aviation fuel to Vietnam and the Philippines, assuring it will not affect domestic use. The council also extended the application period by one year for status designation of ethnic groups and stateless persons, and approved control of goods at the Myanmar and Cambodia borders.
20 May 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC) He held a press conference at the National Security Council, Government House, after a nearly two-hour NSC meeting, stating that the meeting covered three main issues. 1. Measures for exporting fuel outside the Kingdom Following the NSC's decision to suspend fuel exports to Myanmar and Laos, the meeting considered a proposal from the Ministry of Energy regarding two countries requesting Thailand's assistance to export Jet A-1 aviation fuel to Vietnam and the Philippines. This export does not affect domestic fuel use and helps reduce excess stock, allowing fuel reserves to be maintained per established procedures. It also strengthens good international relations. This action falls under the Ministry of Energy's authority, which can suspend exports if shortages arise or urgent needs occur.
2. The meeting approved guidelines to grant nationality status to individuals who have resided in Thailand for a long time. Since the decision on 29 October 2024, the Ministry of Interior has accepted applications to determine status for ethnic groups and stateless people, as part of the government's policy to address these issues. The application period is from 30 June 2025 to 30 June 2026, covering a total of 480,000 people. In the past year, more than 100,000 have been processed, leaving a significant number remaining. The meeting therefore agreed to extend the application period for status determination under the existing criteria by another year, from 30 June 2026 to 30 June 2027. The application process concludes at the district level, with approval by the district chief following established procedures.
If some individuals fail to report or disappear from the system, the council resolved that the Department of Provincial Administration should verify the registration records and update them accordingly. Some may have died or relocated; the Ministry of Interior will conduct further checks.
3. The meeting acknowledged the NSC's resolution on measures to control goods along border areas. The NSC resolved that the Ministry of Defense should enact a royal decree regulating goods along border areas. The Ministry of Defense has already prepared the announcement, which was approved by the Cabinet. The Minister of Defense has signed the announcement detailing controls over goods in border areas with Myanmar and Cambodia, specifying product types and quantities to regulate exports at the border based on the situation.
