Supachai Unconcerned as Constitutional Court Accepts 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree Case, Highlights Governments Ongoing Economic Support

Supachai is unconcerned as the Constitutional Court accepts the petition on the 400 billion baht loan decree, noting the government's ongoing efforts to sustain economic growth. She revealed that the Ministry of Commerce is providing strong support and plans to distribute 100-baht cost-of-living discount coupons on 4 June.

On 20 May 2026 at the Government House, Ms. Supachai Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, addressed concerns about the Constitutional Court accepting the opposition's petition to review the 400 billion baht loan decree, questioning whether it would disrupt government work. She said there is no concern, explaining that they knew challenges were coming. Although the country's GDP looks good now, in Q4 last year GDP was estimated at 0.3%. The government has been working on all fronts, including the Quick Big Win initiative. Although the Ministry of Commerce is a small cog, it has pushed hard to raise GDP to 2.5% in Q4, acting like a tailwind. In January and February, exports were historically strong. Thus, in Q1, despite energy crisis impacts, and into March where effects were not yet fully felt, the momentum remains. However, if efforts stop, the economy will revert and cannot sustain growth.

Ms. Supachai added that the Ministry of Commerce works proactively before problems arise, because responding after damage occurs would require much larger budgets to address harm to citizens and businesses. Therefore, they aim to prevent and cut off problems before they happen.

Ms. Supachai also commented on the positive reception of the Thai Help Thai project, stating the Ministry of Commerce continuously surveys satisfaction. The work is integrated across all departments within the ministry. The project was initiated due to the oil crisis impacting citizens’ cost of living, aiming to provide affordable essential consumer goods as accessible options for the public.

Furthermore, on 4 June, coupons worth 100 baht will be given to shoppers to reduce prices, easing burdens on both consumers and businesses. The initiative also promotes SME and community products to grow and gain greater market access.
