The Department of Provincial Administration clarifies that the program for reading data from the multipurpose national ID card (Smart Card) experienced instability at times due to an ongoing upgrade of the security system, but confirms it is functioning normally.
On 21 May 2026, the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior, explained in response to social media posts via the Facebook page “ลงทุนแมน” reporting that the DOPA system was down, preventing citizens nationwide from verifying their identity to open bank and securities accounts for two days.
The Department of Provincial Administration wishes to clarify that
1. The department’s public services related to civil registration, general registration, and national ID cards are operating normally both domestically and internationally.
2. On 19 May 2026, the department upgraded its cybersecurity protection system, which caused intermittent instability in the Smart Card data reading program. This program is specifically used for data verification between government agencies.
3. As of 20 May 2026 at 17:28 GMT+7, the system has returned to normal operation.
