Parliament confirms that former MPs and senators are entitled to annual medical treatment benefits of 130,000 baht, their children receive scholarships from Grade 1 through bachelor’s degree, and those attending international schools receive assistance ranging from 13,200 to 25,000 baht per academic year. Any changes are the responsibility of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
At 13:30 on 21 May 2026 at the Parliament, Mr. Nattakrit Wongcharoen, Deputy Secretary-General of the House of Representatives and spokesperson for the Parliamentary Secretariat, explained concerns regarding benefits from the fund for former parliament members. He stated that the 130,000 baht annual medical and health check-up allowance complies with the 2024 amendment to the Fund Committee regulations, which revised the definition of “medical treatment.” The annual health check-up is a preventive measure that helps the state save more than if only medical treatment were covered. Regarding educational assistance, clause 45 of the 2013 Fund Committee regulations specifies that two legitimate children, excluding adopted children or those legally adopted by others, are eligible for scholarships from Grade 1 to bachelor’s degree, up to age 25, and subject to Ministry of Finance limits under the Welfare Law for Children’s Education, as per the Comptroller General’s Department letter dated 28 June 2016. Children attending international schools receive educational assistance ranging from 13,200 to 25,000 baht per academic year.
The Parliamentary Secretariat acts as the administrative office responsible for disbursing funds under the Parliamentary Members’ Fund Act, effective since 23 May 2013. Any changes to the fund’s regulations can be proposed to the Parliamentary Affairs Committee and the Fund Committee in due course.
